Sofia Goggia jumps the first giant jump in Killington
Sofia Goggia’s program
Anita Gulli equaled her best World Cup finish in Levi with a 23rd place in race-2 that erases the previous day’s exit when she seemed on her way to another good finish. The 24-year-old Piedmontese from the Centro Sportivo Esercito takes stock of the situation just before embarking for the United States, with destination Killington. “The races went well,” she explains, “the training done in the days before the competitions allowed me to find a good feeling with the snow, I was able to produce in the race what I usually do during the week. We still lack some condition to get to the top, but one step at a time we are trying to improve. In two days I completed three out of four heats, we are trying to find solidity. In Killington we hope to find a track just as good and in the same conditions we experienced in Levi, because we definitely need to find continuity.”
Gulli will be at the start of the slalom on Sunday, November 27 (first run at 4:15 p.m., second run at 7:00 p.m. Italian time with live television coverage on Raisport and Eurosport) alongside Lara Della Mea and Marta Rossetti (Vera Tshurtschenthaler has returned to Italy after the Levi races), while Saturday, November 26, will be the turn for the first giant slalom of the year after the cancellation of Soelden (first run at 4:00 p.m.00, second run at 7 p.m.), in which Federica Brignone, Marta Bassino, Roberta Melesi and Karoline Pichler will take part. Sofia Goggia will not be present, as she continues her preparation in Copper ahead of the next speed event in Lake Louise, where two downhill runs and a super-giant will be held between December 2 and 4.
The Killington track will host a maximum circuit stage for the seventeenth time in history: on no fewer than five occasions there has been a triumph by Mikaela Shiffrin (all in slalom), one by Viktoria Rebensburg (in giant in 2017), one by Tessa Worley (in giant in 2016). There was good satisfaction for Italy, with victories between the wide gates by Federica Brignone in 2018 and Marta Bassino in 2019 (with Brignone second). The Italian team also captured a third place with Sofia Goggia (her first career podium) in giant in 2016 and another third place with Manuela Moelgg again in giant in 2017.
