Giro d’Italia, Jonathan Milan disappointed but aware

There is disappointment, mixed with awareness, in Jonathan Milan’s words on the sidelines of stage number 17 of the Giro d’Italia 2023, which saw him finish in second place just a heartbeat behind the winner, Alberto Dainese.

“A bit of bitterness is there,” the sprinter from Friuli told the official channels of his team, Bahrain Victorious. “I shouldn’t be disappointed with a second place in the Giro, but after the fantastic work done by my team I wanted to reward the guys with a win.

“I did my best but that’s the way it went,” added Milan, who still retains the cyclamen jersey as leader of the points classification. “I was not well positioned before the last corner, there was a bit of chaos and I struggled to keep Andrea Pasqualon’s wheel. I accelerated as much as I could in the last few meters but couldn’t get further than second place. However, I am happy that Dainese won, he deserved it.”
