F1, George Russell cuts short Max Verstappen’s maneuvering
Statements from George Russell following qualifying at the Silverstone GP
After setting the sixth fastest time in qualifying for the Silverstone Gp, Mercedes driver George Russell wanted to provide his views after the maneuver carried out by Max Verstappen towards him in the final minutes of Q1. The Dutch driver, in fact, allegedly overtook the British driver near a panel signaling the yellow flag.
“Honestly I was looking at my steering. The brakes were a bit cold and I was trying to warm them up and all of a sudden Max overtook me in an area where the light panels were signaling a yellow flag, however I am not accusing him because I know he is an experienced driver and he would not have done it on purpose, however there are rules and so it will be the FIA that will judge this maneuver. If there is no investigation there was no problem. He deserved the pole and I don’t want to force a penalty on another driver,” the British driver told the microphones of “Sky Sport F1.”
“I prefer to focus on ourselves and I have to say that today was a more promising day than yesterday. We got close to Ferrari and Piastri, but we are behind and tomorrow we will have to try to overtake them. They have done a tremendous job in McLaren and hopefully they will lose a few positions in the race, but they were strong all weekend in Austria, so we will find out their strength tomorrow. We will just have to think about giving it our all and pushing,” added George Russell about his feelings ahead of the race.
