ATP Finals: Alexander Zverev surprises Carlos Alcaraz on debut

Alexander Zverev proves to be a tough opponent for Carlos Alcaraz. The German, in fact, beats the Spaniard for the fourth time in seven matches, and gets his first win in the Red Group of the ATP Finals. Zverev won in a comeback 6-7 6-4 6-3 after two and a half hours of play.

It's Zverev who got off to the best start: the German snatched the serve from Alcaraz in the third game, but the Spaniard quickly recovered the disadvantage, equalizing at 3-3. After canceling three set points at 5-6, Zverev earned the tie-break. Here, however, Alcaraz proved more cynical and made the decisive game his own by 7 points to 4.

In the second set Zverev starts strong again, immediately taking a break ahead (2-0). The German this time gives no chance to the Spaniard to come back in the set, conceding crumbs on serve and winning the second partial 6-3.

In the third and decisive set è again Zverev the first to escape, scratching the break in the fifth game. The two-time ATP Finals champion confirmed his relentlessness on serve, consolidated his lead and left the world number two no chance, closing on the first match point thanks to a service winner.

With this victory Zverev momentarily takes the lead in the Red Group, pending the match between Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev, scheduled for 9 p.m.
