Tonight at 8 p.m. Italian time Jannik Sinner, world number 1, and Taylor Fritz, number 12, will play the final of the US Open, the last Grand Slam tournament this year, on the concrete at Flushing Meadows.

The South Tyrolean è is in his second career Slam final, the first he won last January at the Australian Open, and is also the first Italian ever to reach the final in New York.

The American, son of Kathy May, who è was among the top 10 in 1977, è in his first Slam final. His best ranking è was No. 5 on Feb. 27, 2023.

It is worth mentioning that the U.S. has not won a men’s singles title at its home Slam since 2003 with Andy Roddick, who was also the’last to reach the final in 2006.

Italy on the other hand obviously among the men has never won a singles title, while among the women in 2015 there was the historic final won by Flavia Pennetta over Roberta Vinci.

There are two previous matches between the two tennis players, both played on the Indian Wells concrete. In the round of 16 in 2021 Fritz won 6-4 6-3, and in the quarterfinals in 2023 Sinner won 6-4 4-6 6-4.
