The Davis Cup to Italy for the third year in a row sparks the enthusiasm of Andrea Scanzi, also known for his great passion for tennis. Just minutes after the feats of Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli, therefore, came the journalist’s analysis. Who, on his official Facebook profile, pointed out the’absence among others of Jannik Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti and Carlos Alcaraz. And, speaking of the latter, came a new dig at Bruno Vespa’s address.

“I know full well that it is a debased Davis. I know full well that the two teams in the final played without having the first two singles players (and Italy fielded not the third and fourth, but the third and sixth). I am well aware that there were no Sinner, Alcaraz Vespa Alvarez, Musetti, Davidovich Fokina and so on. And I also know that it had never happened that a team won Davis won without ever beating a top 35″ in singles, Scanzi wrote in the incipit of his remarks on Italy&#8217s success.

“I know. It is all true. But I am happy all the same. In some ways more so. Because of the three consecutive Davis matches (and four overall), this is the most heroic and the most hardworking – added Scanzi -. The second lines going to heaven. Berrettini wonderful and more and more Davis man, and it really would be the time for the Italians (all) to applaud him and realize that Matteo is a true champion, whose only limit is physical frailty. Cobolli was heroic and gladiatorial, as much with Bergs as today, able to pull up a match that seemed to be all but over under 1-6 and a break in the second, against an always obnoxious opponent and today more”.

“It is the Davis of the two of them, lifelong friends. But also of Volandri, Sonego, Bolelli and Vavassori. Three consecutive 2-0s, to the point that our doubles never served. Italian men’s tennis is so strong and in a state of grace that it always wins, even this time, and yes two weeks ago it seemed impossible without Jannik and Lorenzo. Just applause!”, concluded Scanzi.
