Gustav Thoeni and Jannik Sinner are both from South Tyrol but, according to the former, the points of contact end there. The’former skier in an interview with Corriere della Sera confessed to watching tennis on TV and in particular the matches of the world number 2, which, however, in person he has only touched: “What is our relationship? None. He lives in another world. We met only once, last year for the Sports Ball. I approached, he was so beleaguered. It was just a moment”.

“He went to live in Monaco? We didn–t need it – he added -We would take the cup and goodbye. Once they gave me two TV sets, but there was no repeater here: they did not work. After the parallel came a Lancia. I liked the cars. With my own money I bought myself an Alfa. The DMV gave me the BZ 150,000 license plate. This was not an advantage: if I was already trying not to be recognized, it was practically impossible that way. Then came the invitation to Maranello. Enzo Ferrari welcomed me in a huge studio, with an immense desk. He was very kind, but I suffered from his personality. In that room I felt tiny”.

Jannik Sinner meanwhile is preparing his return to the court after disappointment in the Australian Open, where he was eliminated in the semifinals by Novak Djokovic. For the Azzurro, three precious months begin, where he will be able to gain ground against world number one Carlos Alcaraz: he had not played in 2025 due to suspension for the Clostebol case and therefore does not have to defend any points. The goal is to recover as much as possible from the Murcia outfielder ahead of Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

The Italian tennis player after a short break is then expected to play in the ATP 500 tournament in Doha, scheduled for Feb. 16-22 in Doha, where Carlos Alcaraz should also be on the entry list.

After the tournament in the Middle East, Sinner will fly to the United States, where he will participate in the Indian Wells and Miami Masters 1000: the two stops are scheduled for March. Sinner must now make up 3650 points to Alcaraz, undisputed ruler of the circuit after his triumph in Melbourne.
