Novak Djokovic returns to hope: possible breakthrough on the way
Novak Djokovic, already cancelled from Montreal, is also likely to miss Cincinnati and the Us Open
It’s a paradoxical situation for Novak Djokovic: the former world number one and fresh Wimbledon winner cannot participate in North American concrete tournaments scheduled for August because of Canada and the United States’ stop to those who are not vaccinated against Covid.
Nole has already cancelled himself from the Montreal Masters 1000 and will do the same for Cincinnati, but things could change for the Us Open, however: U.S. media report that some members of Congress have reportedly sent an official request to President Joe Biden to grant Djokovic and all unvaccinated foreigners entry to play in the last Slam in 2022.
Members of Congress are appealing for a “National Interest Exemption,” or an exemption because it is in the national interest. The request will be considered in the coming days.
