Skiing, shared joy for Federica Brignone and Sofia Goggia
Federica Brignone and Sofia Goggia are the “Fisi Athletes of the Year 2022”
Federica Brignone and Sofia Goggia are the tied winners of the “Fisi Athlete of the Year 2022” award, following a vote that, as communicated by the Federation itself, involved more than one hundred thousand fans.
The two alpine skiing champions thus won, in a tie, the award destined for the national team athlete of one of the Fisi-affiliated sports able to distinguish themselves most in the last season of competitions, culminating with the Beijing Olympics. Brignone won the silver medal in giant slalom and the bronze medal in combined in the Chinese event, also reaching 20 World Cup victories, a figure never reached by any other Italian female skier on the highest circuit.
Goggia, on the other hand, defeated bad luck once again by showing up in the downhill to defend the gold she had won four years earlier just 23 days after her knee injury, where she captured a resounding silver. Her courage was rewarded a few weeks later in the World Cup, where she won the trophy reserved for speed for the third time.
This is the fourth time in history that the Athlete of the Year has been awarded in a tie after editions in 1995 (Alberto Tomba and Silvio Fauner), 2002 (Daniela Ceccarelli and Gabriella Paruzzi) and 2013 (Dominik Paris and Christof Innerhofer).
