Italrugby, historic day: beat Australia for the first time
Italy-Australia 28-27
The national rugby team celebrates an incredible result seven days after its success against Samoa: on the turf of the ‘Artemio Franchi’ stadium in Florence, Italy in fact defeated Australia for the first time in its history, with the final score of 28-27 that came after a thrilling finale, to say the least.
Ahead 17-8 at the end of the first half as a result of heavy goals by Pierre Bruno in the 19th minute and Ange Capuozzo in the 25th minute, both converted by Tommaso Allan (for him also a realized free kick), the Azzurri did not lose their composure in a resumption that started badly (McReight’s goal): in the 64th minute Capuozzo scored twice at the end of a splendid team action and brought Italy up 25-15.
In the final, everything happens: Allan and Padovani miss a couple of placeable kicks, the latter does not fail the next attempt and in the 80th minute the score is 28-22; Neville, however, escapes the Azzurri defense as time expires, scoring the 28-27 goal from a relatively convenient position for the transformation entrusted to Donaldson, who, however, misses: the Italy of oval ball rejoices for its first historic success against the Wallabies.
