Sofia Goggia fifth in Super-G: her explanation is clear
After the incredible success, a cautious Sunday.
Sofia Goggia finished fifth in the St. Moritz Super-G, 60 hundredths behind winner Mikaela Shiffrin (second, at +.0.12, Elena Curtoni). However, the Bergamasque star does not at all consider this result a step backward from her downhill triumph.
“My weekend was quite crazy – she admitted to the FISI microphones -. I collected a second place in the downhill, in very bad conditions, and then a nice victory. That’s why I can call today’s race intelligently run. I didn’t feel like forcing, I aimed to stay solid on my feet and I did it.”
Sofia Goggia also admitted that her participation in the Super-G was in the balance: “Last night I woke up and felt my hand throbbing. So I was undecided whether to race or not. That’s also why there were uncertainties and smears on my part, but that’s okay for today. I have picked up three wins in this start of the season, and I am very happy about that.”
Clear on the schedule for the coming weeks. “I will do rehabilitation on my hand and then focus on St. Anton and Cortina, also in view of the World Championships,” Sofia Goggia added.
