F1, Stefano Domenicali is adamant about grid expansion
Stefano Domenicali is against a grid expansion any time soon
For Stefano Domenicali, Formula One is healthy and does not need the addition of new teams, despite several proposals that came, up to the deadline a few days ago, directly to the FIA. The CEO of Formula One Group made his position clear by speaking on the ‘F1 Beyond the Grid’ podcast on the subject.
“I don’t think Formula One needs more cars on the grid,” he said, “It’s my personal opinion, and I want to express it: twenty cars is more than enough to create spectacle, the level of attention is already huge with two cars or two teams fighting.
Domenicali added, arguing further, “Mine is not a ‘no’ that wants to disrespect those who want to be part of F1, I am not protectionist and I want to make that clear. All I am saying is that we need to respect those who invested in Formula 1 in the not too distant past, now it seems like everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon. Before bringing in new realities, however, we have to be very careful.”
