Juventus Transfer Market: A Surprise Solution Emerges for the Assistant Coach

Juventus has settled the starting goalkeeper position with the arrival of Guglielmo Vicario, but the real puzzle now is who will be his backup for the 2026–2027 season. The situation, already complex due to pending departures, has taken an unexpected turn in the last few hours, thanks to a transfer-market development involving Palermo.
The Rosanero’s victory in the Coppa Italia against Lecce has, in fact, left them with a serious problem: Jesse Joronen’s right shoulder injury, which forced him out of the game after just a few minutes and now requires further evaluation. There are fears that he’ll be sidelined for an extended period, and Palermo has moved immediately to find a new starting goalkeeper. Their top choice is Mattia Perin, who has long wanted to return to regular playing time and would be tempted by the prospect of playing for a Sicilian club—even if it’s in Serie B.
For this reason, the Rosanero club has made initial inquiries with Juventus, which just today officially announced the signing of Vicario. The initial response, according to Sport Mediaset, is a “no” contingent on the sale of Michele Di Gregorio. Torino and Monza are interested in last season’s Bianconeri starter, but if that deal doesn’t materialize, Juventus might consider an offer of around 2 million for Perin.
The situation is further complicated because Di Gregorio, sidelined by Vicario’s arrival, is evaluating various options. Olympique Marseille is a hot lead, with talks initiated in the last seventy-two hours, while the Premier League option remains a possibility in the background. Juventus, in an effort to speed up his departure, has reportedly even opened the door to a straight loan with his salary fully covered by the acquiring club.
Now, however, the situation has turned on its head: if Perin were to accept Palermo’s offer, Juventus would close every door for Di Gregorio, who would thus be destined to become the new number 12 while awaiting further developments. This scenario would radically change his transfer prospects and, at the same time, provide Spalletti with a backup goalkeeper other than the one he had envisioned just a few days ago.
