Milan Transfer Market: A Domino Effect from Arsenal Disrupts the Rossoneri’s Plans

Milan Transfer News: A veritable domino effect triggered by Arsenal could have consequences for the Rossoneri’s plans as the transfer window winds down. The Gunners are in fact on the verge of finalizing the signing of Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa, creating a gap in the Birmingham-based team’s defensive lineup. Aston Villa might decide to make a move for Fikayo Tomori, who has long been tempted by a return to his homeland. However, a potential offer could, on the one hand, solve a problem for Milan’s management—given that the player’s contract expires on June 30, 2027—but, on the other hand, create a new one.
It’s no secret that Milan would like to reach an agreement to extend Tomori’s contract—they don’t want to risk losing him on a free transfer in less than a year—or, alternatively, sell him by this summer. On the other hand, Aston Villa is fully aware of the situation, and this could lead to a drop in the 28-year-old’s value: with a transfer fee of around 17 million, the offer might not exceed 10. But the Rossoneri club’s leadership is considering it nonetheless, having already secured the defender’s agreement to the transfer, knowing he risks spending a season on the sidelines of Ruben Amorim’s technical plans.
Amorim’s intention to exclude Tomori from his plans has, after all, been known for weeks. After the Asian tour, the Portuguese coach clearly communicated to management the names of the players deemed surplus to requirements, and the former Chelsea player tops the list alongside Youssouf Fofana, Christopher Nkunku, and David Odogu. The signing of Mario Gila during this summer transfer window—part of a transfer campaign totaling over 150 million that also brought Gonçalo Ramos and Diego Moreira to Milan—was, after all, an unmistakable sign of the Portuguese coach’s low regard for the English defender.
Aston Villa is not, however, the only viable option for Milan. In recent weeks, there has been persistent talk of a swap deal with Lazio, with Nuno Tavares—a Portuguese fullback valued at around 20 million euros—as a possible trade-off that Amorim would welcome. Such a deal would have the advantage of simultaneously addressing two of the Rossoneri’s needs, given that the coach has explicitly requested reinforcements on the wing. The Juventus option also remains on the table: Giovanni Carnevali is reportedly considering a double signing from Milan, bringing both Tomori and Fofana to Turin for a total fee estimated at around 30–35 million euros. The Bianconeri aim to take advantage of the English player’s impending contract expiration to secure his transfer on favorable terms, with a fee of around 15 million considered potentially sufficient to convince the Rossoneri club.
From the Premier League, in addition to Aston Villa, Newcastle and Coventry had already expressed interest, though no concrete offer ever reached the Rossoneri management’s desk. Paradoxically, this scenario could actually work in favor of Juventus or Lazio, as Milan would prefer to sell Tomori abroad to avoid strengthening a direct rival but, in the absence of adequate offers, might be forced to reevaluate its priorities. Intertwined with the Tomori situation is that of Nico González, with Juventus potentially putting together a trade that includes the Argentine—who is set to leave Continassa and is valued at around 26 million—as a welcome addition for the Rossoneri.
Time is running out, and Milan absolutely must speed up player sales in order to reinvest and provide Amorim with a leaner, more functional roster. With the league season about to begin—the Rossoneri will make their Serie A debut next Sunday on the road against Torino—the Rossoneri management is well aware that every passing day further reduces their room to maneuver, making Tomori’s contract situation an increasingly difficult burden to manage.
