F1, Montoya unabashed on Ferrari: “The problem is not Binotto”
F1, Juan Pablo Montoya on Ferrari: “Everyone blames Mattia Binotto, but he is not the one who is wrong”
Former Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya to the microphones of Vegasinsider commented on the situation in Ferrari as follows: “Mattia Binotto is not the man of strategy. Everyone blames him, but he is not the one who is wrong. I don’t think he is the one saying, ‘Let’s put on the hard tire.'”
“That’s why you have strategists,” Montoya continued, “and that’s why you pay high-level people to make these decisions. In Red Bull, it’s not Adrian Newey or Christian Horner who make the decisions. It is the strategists who are in charge of that. The problem is that you see Wolff and Horner on TV, as well as Binotto, but they are not the ones who make the final decision on which tire to put on the car. They run the team as a whole. It’s like when you own a soda company and you’re not in charge of putting a cap on every bottle. And if a couple of caps come out wrong, you’ll be blamed for that, but it doesn’t mean you did it.”
According to Montoya, Ferrari can still have its say: “I think they need to stop being so timid in their decisions and be a little more aggressive. There won’t be changes in the middle of the championship, for me the most important thing is how they will deal with it and how they will change things.”
