F1, Ferrari: Mattia Binotto does not back down on Charles Leclerc case
“In racing you have to take risks.”
Having once again ended up in the eye of the storm for the strategy adopted throughout the Spa-Francorchamps race – but especially for the decision to pit on the penultimate lap Charles Leclerc in an attempt to snatch the fastest lap from Max Verstappen – Mattia Binotto proudly defends his choices. Speaking at the microphones of Sky Sports UK, the Rossa’s Team Principal did not take the slightest step backwards, most likely drawing criticism from those who have already shown impatience with yet another bungling by the Ferrari wall.
“By making Charles stop we made the right decision. In racing you have to take risks and we tried to take the point, but failed to do so. However, I don’t think it was a mistake on the contrary,” Binotto began. On the overwhelming superiority shown by Red Bull during the race, the executive analyzed the situation very realistically: “There were some races where they were faster than us and vice versa. At Spa their package worked better than ours, as the tires on our cars degraded after a few laps. We certainly have to analyze the data and look ahead, accepting that Red Bull was superior to us this weekend,” he concluded.
