World Cup 2026 qualifiers: Argentina-Colombia, the likely lineups

On Tuesday night and Wednesday (kickoff at 2 a.m. Italian time on June 11), Argentina hosts Colombia in the 16th round of World Cup qualifiers. With qualification already in the bag, the Albiceleste will be able to face the match without any particular pressure. It is a different matter for Colombia, currently sixth and last of the teams in the direct qualification zone, which must defend a three-point lead over Venezuela: a margin too slim to let its guard down.
For the reigning world champions, confirmations are expected for Emiliano Martínez between the posts, Cristian Romero in the center of defense and Rodrigo De Paul to lead the midfield. In attack, Julián Álvarez will be the central reference, completing the trident are Messi and Almada, ahead of Nico Gonzalez.
On the Colombian front, technical commissioner Néstor Lorenzo will once again rely on the experience of James Rodríguez, who will act as offensive director behind forward Jhon Durán, confirmed up front. In defense, space will be given to the solid pair of Sánchez and Lucumí.
Probable lineups
Argentina (4-3-3): E. Martinez; Molina, Romero, Otamendi, Barco; De Paul, Paredes, Enzo Fernandez; Messi, J. Alvarez, Almada. Coach: Lionel Scaloni.
Colombia (4-3-2-1): Vargas; Munoz, Sanchez, Lucumì, Borja; Arias, Lerma, Rios; Hernandez, J. Rodriguez, Campaz; Duran. Coach: Nestor Lorenzo.
