Jannik Sinner is already out of the Doha ATP 500. The path of the world and seeded number two stopped in the quarterfinals, surprised by Jakub Mensik, number 6 in the seedings and 16 in the ATP ranking, who won with a final score of 7-6 2-6 6-3 after just over two hours and ten minutes of play. Another premature knockout for the South Tyrolean champion after his semifinal loss at the Australian Open to Novak Djokovic.

Sinner started off strong earning three consecutive break points in the third game but Mensik clung to his serve and held serve on the advantages after nullifying another break point to the Azure with serve & volley. In the eighth game it is the South Tyrolean who has to save the first break point of the tournament thanks to an error in the Czech’s response. It thus came down to the tie-break, dominated by Mensik, who won it 7 points to 3.

At the beginning of the second set, Jannik saves a dangerous break ball with a slap volley and puts his head ahead for the first time in the match. Mensik continued to serve very well but in the sixth game he jammed and with two double faults gave up the serve to the Blue. Sinner confirmed the break and repeated it in the eighth game also thanks to three free errors by the Czech. The match thus returns to perfect parity.

The third and decisive set, however, starts badly for Sinner, who plays a bad service round in which he commits three unforced errors and gives up the serve. Mensik cancels the counter break ball with a winning volley and goes up 2-0. Jannik tries to stick to his opponent in the score but the Czech concedes crumbs on serve and in the ninth game has the luxury of taking the serve away from the Azure again giving himself a historic victory.
