Bitter semifinal for Davide Mazzanti’s Italvolley: Brazil wins 3-1
Bitter semifinal for Davide Mazzanti’s blue girls
Davide Mazzanti’s Italvolley failed to get revenge against Brazil, which had already defeated the Azzurri, in five sets, in the match valid for the second phase of the World Cup.
This time Egonu and her teammates managed to snatch only one set from the Greenoro, who were superior from start to finish, especially in defense: therefore, it was the Brazilians who entered the rainbow final, at the end of a match won three sets to one, with the scores of 25-23, 22-25, 26-24 and 25-19.
After a balanced first set won by the South American national team, Mazzanti’s girls reacted and managed to bring the match back to a tie score, mainly thanks to the usual Paola Egonu.
The third set turns out to be the decisive one: in fact, after having pregusted the overtaking, Egonu herself fails the set-point and allows the Brazilians to take the match to 24 equals, before closing the partial for 26-24.
In the last set, there is no history: by now the match has slipped out of the Italian women’s hands and, after being even up 19-10, the greenoro national team closes 25-19.
Now the Davide Mazzanti-led team will face the United States for the bronze medal, while Brazil will face Serbia, the defending champions, in the final for the gold.
