Bitter final for Pro Recco, Champions League goes to Ferencvaros
Fades fourth consecutive Champions for Pro Recco
It ends with a mockery the final of the Champions League for Pro Recco, which, after winning the trophy in 2021, 2022, 2023, is narrowly defeated by the Hungarians of Ferencvaros with a score of 12-11, thus seeing the possibility of winning the cup for the fourth consecutive time fade away.
After a first quarter ended in parity, it was the Magyars who gave the game its first break in the second, as the game went to halftime with a score of 4-6 in favor of the Hungarian team. In the third period, Pro Recco tried to recover the disadvantage, but Ferencvaros managed to be more cynical and take the lead to +3.
In the fourth and final period the Italian champions gave it their all and managed to come back up to -1. The Magyars, however, are adept at keeping a two-goal lead on a regular basis. In the final minutes came the best chance for the Ligurian lineup, which on 11-12, with 16 seconds left and in numerical superiority narrowly missed the goal that would have taken the match to penalty shoot-outs.
"You can't win all the time. We played a good match and came close to equalizing. We will restart as soon as possible to try again to win this competition, guaranteed!" these are the warm statements of Pro Recco president Maurizio Felugo after the defeat.
