European Swimming Championships, Paltrinieri gold: “I made an impossible trajectory.”
European Swimming: Paltrinieri triumphs in the 10 km in Belgrade
A super Gregorio Paltrinieri dominates the men’s 10 km at the European Swimming Championships in Belgrade. In the open water at the Ada Ciganlija, the Italian commanded the race, finishing in 1h49'19"6, ahead of world silver medalist Marc-Antoine Olivier (1h49'41"09), second, and Hungary's David Betlehem (1h49'41"1), third.
"When I do races like this, I feel good,” Paltrinieri told official FIN channels. I feel in control. A warm ten, water 27 degrees, flat water, characteristics that I like. However, I struggled until halfway through, when I still didn’t have very good feelings, after that I got in front and started swimming better".
"On the third, fourth and fifth laps I was in front, then on the last lap I got a little bit in the middle, surrounded, Marcolino Olivier on one side and Mimmo on the other, and I couldn" swim so much,” added the Carpi native.
"I had so much speed, I felt it. I felt I could put a pace that the others, at that moment, didn’t have. The’s only alternative was to break away a lot and go to the opposite side. They, on the other hand, stayed on the outside. At the’last buoy I realized I was alone and I came so’well" concluded Paltrinieri.
