Daniel Hackett takes it seriously: “It would be a great achievement.”
Numerous anecdotes related to his experience in Olympiacos
Speaking as a host within the Novasports podcast, Virtus Bologna point guard Daniel Hackett dwelt at length on his experience in Greece, which he consummated in the ranks of Olympiacos between 2015 and 2017. In the Hellenic peninsula, the Forlimpopoli native won the championship at the first attempt, in 2015-16, but not everything had started in the right direction, as recounted by the player himself.
“When I arrived in Greece I had been labeled as someone over the top. I had had some problems with the national team. I was passing as someone to be managed. Greece was a key step in evolving me, maturing. Being with teammates like Spanoulis, Printezis and Papanikolaou gave me an idea of how to behave, train and manage myself,” he began.
“The farewell to Olympiacos? I was injured, my future was uncertain. The club obviously thought it was not a good idea to confirm me. But I received love from the fans, support from coach Sfairopoulos throughout the summer. He supported me in my recovery work and in accepting that farewell. They were like family, kissing the logo on my return to that field was natural,” he continued.
Returning to the narrow current events instead, the 35-year-old promised maximum commitment to the Vu Nere fans: “I have to look at the present, which means trying to take Virtus Bologna to the Euroleague Playoffs. That would be a great achievement. Bologna deserves to stay in Europe. I want to be an example for the young people on my team. Alessandro Pajola is one of the most interesting young prospects. It will be very curious to see how his career will take shape. Nico Mannion is another good example,” he concluded.
