Despite the defeat, more new records have come.

Jannik Sinner said goodbye to Roland Garros in the semifinals, bowing out to arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz in five sets and after a battle that broke through the four-hour mark. Paris, however, also brought very good news for the South Tyrolean, in terms of gaining the No. 1 spot in the ATP world rankings and beyond. In fact, the match against the Spaniard also saw him set some new records.

At Roland Garros Sinner, who as mentioned from Monday will officially be the world’s No. 1 tennis player thanks to overtaking Novak Djokovic at the top of the ATP ranking, è was eliminated in both 2024 and 2023 in as many matches in which he won more points than his opponent. In fact, with Alcaraz his roster è was 147-145; a year earlier against Daniel Altmaier it was 198-193. The only opponent to have ever beaten him both on court and in total points in the Paris tournament thus remains Rafa Nadal, in the challenge dated June 7, 2021.

Contextually, però, Alcaraz also celebrated a new personal best after beating Sinner. In fact, winning the Roland Garros 2024 final makes him the youngest tennis player to have reached, at the age of 22 yet to be, the last act of a Slam on all surfaces.

“È it was a good match, sorry of course for how it ended. But that is part of the game. I try to give the best I can and see what I can do in the future. If we look at the positive side, I have taken a step forward on this surface", had been Sinner’s hot comment after losing to Alcaraz.
